The short version: an AI answer engine cites the page that costs it the least effort to trust: a direct answer it can lift whole, a fact it can attribute to a name, and a structure it can parse without guessing. Ten concrete moves raise the odds of that citation, from a fifty-word answer block near the top to getting indexed in both Google and Bing at once.
A page does not need a rewrite to become more quotable. It needs ten habits, applied consistently, on every page that matters.
The ten moves, in order of effort
1. Put a self-contained answer in the first fifty words. State the direct answer to the page's core question in the first sentence under the heading, in a form an engine can lift without reading anything above it. Save the nuance, the caveats, and the examples for the paragraphs underneath.
2. Write headings as the question a person would actually ask. "What is the ideal answer length" outperforms "Overview" because it mirrors how these systems retrieve an answer to a query, not a section title. Every heading on a page should survive being read out loud as a real question.
3. Turn any list of parts into a table. Comparisons, sequences, and options should not stay buried in prose. Wix Studio's AI Search Lab tracked 75,000 AI answers and more than a million citations and found listicle and comparison formats took 21.9 percent of all citations, the largest share of any format (Wix Studio, via Subscribe PR, to re-verify).
4. Attach a named source to every number. A statistic with a link behind it is safe for an engine to repeat, a "studies show" is not. In one Search Engine Journal report on 129,000 domains, pages carrying nineteen or more attributed data points averaged 5.4 citations versus 2.8 for pages with almost none (Search Engine Journal, to re-verify).
5. Keep the last-updated date honest. Show it in plain sight, and only move it when the page actually changed: a new figure, a corrected claim, a fresher example. Freshness is not the whole story either. A 1,000-page study of Google AI Overviews found the median cited page was fourteen months old, so real authority still beats a page that only got a new timestamp (Digital Applied, to re-verify).
6. Close every page with a real FAQ. Write each question exactly as a reader would say it aloud, and answer it as its own block, three to five sentences, with nothing in it that only makes sense next to the question above.
7. Make the entity and the author impossible to mistake. Use the same business name and the same author name and credentials everywhere the page lives, and link to the real profiles behind them. An engine that can resolve who is speaking hesitates less to name that source.
8. Earn a mention somewhere else first. Muck Rack traced 94 percent of AI citations back to sources the brand did not own, and Ahrefs has reported that unlinked brand mentions correlate with AI Overview citations roughly three times more strongly than backlinks do (Muck Rack, to re-verify; Ahrefs finding reported via secondary coverage, treat as directional). A page discussed on a trusted third-party site earns trust a brand cannot manufacture on its own.
9. Write one claim per sentence, one idea per section. That same 129,000-domain analysis found sections of 120 to 180 words averaged 4.6 citations, against 2.7 for sections under fifty words (Search Engine Journal, to re-verify). Dense is not the same as thorough, and an engine rewards the second, not the first.
10. Get indexed in Google and Bing, not just one. ChatGPT Search leans on Bing far more than Google: Seer Interactive found more than 87 percent of ChatGPT's citations matched Bing's top twenty results, against about 56 percent for Google (Seer Interactive, directional, to re-verify). A page invisible to Bing is a page ChatGPT and Copilot cannot cite, no matter how well it reads.
The same fix, before and after
The difference between a buried claim and a liftable one is rarely the idea. It is the shape.
| Element | Buried version | Liftable version |
|---|---|---|
| Placement | The answer arrives after three paragraphs of context | The answer opens the section, first sentence |
| Length | One long paragraph carrying several ideas at once | Fifty to sixty words, one claim |
| Evidence | "Studies show this matters" | A named source with a link and a date |
| Heading | "Overview" | The exact question a reader would type |
Perguntas frequentes
Aproximadamente quarenta a sessenta palavras.
